It seems to have been a long road since the first volume was released in February 2021… Creating music has had to take its place in a busy life that has included a wedding, a house move to Scotland, and a change of job. Now I am finally settled north of the border, I am ready with The Road Part 2, the rockier half of this two volume set.

The main sound of The Road Part II is based around acoustic guitar and harmonies as with my previous releases but this time, the songs are built using different electric guitars, some folk instruments and even an Irn Bru bottle!

As it is a horrible task to explain your own music, this review covers things pretty well!

“Duncan’s voice is instantly recognisable. His songs are observational, taking in a wide variety of topics including relationships, travel, historical events, social, political, and environmental issues, with the occasional autobiographical reference thrown in for good measure. The music is upbeat, and even where the lyrics tackle serious subjects, The Road Part 2 will leave you with feelings of optimism.”

Coming Home 05:05
Out of the mist above the mountains Across the rivers deep and wide A storm is brewing on the ocean A better feeling hard to find Far across the ocean waves I'm coming home again By my side Far across the ocean waves I'm coming home again By my side Sure as the sun rise every morning Sure as the stars appear at night I reach my final destination A better feeling hard to find Far across the ocean waves I'm coming home again By my side

The Road 03:53
Clouds form up ahead Just around the bend Watch the turning of the tides Where the road becomes alive As we turn into the wind, seek cover for a while And the road becoming clear, beyond is where it lies Where the sun goes down Where the sun goes down I will find another one Drive into the setting sun I will find a better home tonight The calling of the crows A path where no-one knows Through the wilderness we drive What it feels to be alive As we turn into the wind, seek cover for a while And the road becoming clear, beyond is where it lies With the turning of the wheel, the miles go passing by Hear the calling of the sea, for where we sleep tonight Where the sun goes down Where the sun goes down I will find another one Drive into the setting sun I wont find a better home tonight

Brother 04:07
I lie awake at night Think of what I could have been My fears have learnt to swim Falling to my knees I call A name into the wind The troubles on my mind I tell myself it fades with time My life is passing by Falling to my knees I crawl And hit the earth below Every time we take a chance its sink or swim A time we laugh about the places we have been Even now we see the light and it never ends Deep inside I scream aloud at everything within There's nothing left to give But tell me what I have to gain? My life is passing by I walk the shadows til the day I'm scattered to the wind Every time we take a chance its sink or swim A time we laugh about the places we have been Even now we see the light and it never ends Deep inside I scream aloud at everything within Again and again My life is yours to give And all the blood will drain away As I'm born again I am heading to the grave I lie awake at night Think of what I could have been A name into the wind

For the undecided Winter comes at last For another day we hold on Over barren passes Shelter where we can Though the hunt still rolls on And the wind it howls What you followed yesterday Was meant to change the world From the other side we hold on And resistance to the change With nowhere left to turn For another time we hold on Scan the dark horizon Cast no shadows here Leave behind the trace of no man See the distant burning Dies are long since cast Powerless to stop, were undone And the wind it howls What you followed yesterday Was meant to change the world From the other side we hold on And resistance to the change With nowhere left to turn Now another time we hold on And the wind it howls And the wind it howls And the wind it howls And the wind it howls I remember yesterday Was us against the world From the other side we hold on And resistant to the change With nowhere left to turn For another time we hold on Through the endless winter Spring will come at last For another year we hold on

Fire 04:25
Even stars will fall Rising above Follow the blind When all around you falls A flicker of light We are one for all Watching the flood Follow so blind When all around you falls A flicker of light And it burns like a fire in the night And we walk, we try to make it right When they kill, its only to survive In the earth, we will finally lie All the way down We learn nothing on the way Down From our favourite source Fighting for all Follow so blind When all around you falls Wait to ignite And it burns like a fire in the night And we walk, we try to make it right When they kill, its only to survive In the earth, we will finally lie All the way down We learn nothing on the way Down

Dreaming 04:32
Awake from your sleeping Today we can dream Along can you help me Escape the rising sea Time has no feeling But time is all we have The signs they are calling The times we never had And now you feel there's nothing left to say When all you do is finger point and blame At times it feels there's nowhere really sane A pawn caught in someone else's game Today we are dreaming What more can we do? A time it is coming A time we have to choose And now you feel there's nothing left to say When all you do is finger point and blame At times it feels there's nowhere really sane A pawn caught in someone else's game Today we are dreaming What more can we do?
7.
Rewind 04:09
Frozen embers of a flame And the night it comes too soon Feel the chill against the pane We are only passing through Rewind Feel the winter chill again The divided will be ruled As we feel the wind of change We are only passing through From the other side Where the world has turned Bathed in light Who will draw the line In this land we start anew Fight for life Rewind From the other side Where the world has turned Bathed in light Where the fields still burn In this land we start anew Fight for life
8.
Traveller 05:00
Will we waken from this dream Find out what it means What will I leave behind this time Hard to visualise As the leaves begin to fall Times against us all Will you leave a memory for me? Weary traveller on the road His thoughts forever drifting home The world will pass you by again Will I ever reach the end? This is harder than it seems Planned out in front of me Torn between the open road And benefits of home Life in limbo hard to take Empty days fall away Curse the traveller within Cant escape this skin Weary traveller on the road His thoughts forever drifting home The world will pass you by again Will I ever reach the end?
9.
Tonight 03:36
Breathe the open air Rise above Wonder where the time has gone And I wonder Come alive Where I lay my head tonight Now I gaze From on high While the world is passing by And I wonder Eye to Eye No more secrets left to hide Oh how I wanted your lie Time pass slowly tonight Oh how I wanted your lie Time pass slowly tonight Tonight

Reflection 03:58
It seems like only yesterday This path we thought would never change I gaze across to the other side The wind was whistling your denial The trees are lost to memory Roots held back by concrete and steel A vicious circle back around Wilderness so quickly drowned And what I saw in my reflection was a time I wasn't free And streaming forth a new religion that never answered to me The answers cant be seen or read They never enter into your head You cannot look me in the eye We sit and watch our country die The trees are lost to memory Roots held back by concrete and steel A vicious circle back around Wilderness so quickly drowned And what I saw in my reflection was a time I wasn't free And streaming forth a new religion that never answered to me A lack of care, a lack of vision leaves a bitter taste for me An old world, a new decision that never satisfied me The trees are lost to memory Roots held back by concrete and steel A vicious circle back around Wilderness so quickly drowned
