It seems to have been a long road since the first volume was released in February 2021… Creating music has had to take its place in a busy life that has included a wedding, a house move to Scotland, and a change of job. Now I am finally settled north of the border, I am ready with The Road Part 2, the rockier half of this two volume set.

The main sound of The Road Part II is based around acoustic guitar and harmonies as with my previous releases but this time, the songs are built using different electric guitars, some folk instruments and even an Irn Bru bottle!

As it is a horrible task to explain your own music, this review covers things pretty well!

“Duncan’s voice is instantly recognisable. His songs are observational, taking in a wide variety of topics including relationships, travel, historical events, social, political, and environmental issues, with the occasional autobiographical reference thrown in for good measure. The music is upbeat, and even where the lyrics tackle serious subjects, The Road Part 2 will leave you with feelings of optimism.”

about

The song explores the relationship between two brothers and was actually inspired by a TV show… It considers the perspective of the younger brother and the desire to be an individual.

lyrics

I lie awake at night
Think of what I could have been
My fears have learnt to swim
Falling to my knees I call
A name into the wind

The troubles on my mind
I tell myself it fades with time
My life is passing by
Falling to my knees I crawl
And hit the earth below

Every time we take a chance its sink or swim
A time we laugh about the places we have been
Even now we see the light and it never ends
Deep inside I scream aloud at everything within

There's nothing left to give
But tell me what I have to gain?
My life is passing by
I walk the shadows til the day
I'm scattered to the wind

Every time we take a chance its sink or swim
A time we laugh about the places we have been
Even now we see the light and it never ends
Deep inside I scream aloud at everything within
Again and again

My life is yours to give
And all the blood will drain away
As I'm born again
I am heading to the grave

I lie awake at night
Think of what I could have been
A name into the wind
